This study aims to identify the factors that influence entrepreneurial intention and continuity in self-employment among Hispanic immigrants in Toronto, based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). A quantitative, cross-sectional design was employed. A total of 129 self-employed Hispanic immigrants completed a survey measuring attitudes toward entrepreneurship, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, entrepreneurial intention, and continuity in self-employment. Data was analyzed using path analysis to test the predictive relationships proposed by TPB. Results revealed that both attitude (? = .30, p < .01) and subjective norms (? = .27, p < .05) significantly predicted entrepreneurial intention (R² = .26), while perceived behavioral control did not (? = .09, p = .342). Furthermore, entrepreneurial intention strongly predicted continuity in self-employment (? = .75, R² = .56). The overall model fit was
excellent (CFI = .996, GFI = .982, RMSEA = .036), supporting the TPB’s applicability in this context. Findings provide valuable input for designing public policies and support programs aimed at enhancing self-employment among immigrant entrepreneurs. In conclusion, the study confirms the usefulness of the Theory of Planned Behavior and the Theory of Reasoned Action in explaining entrepreneurial intention and continuity in self-employment among Hispanic immigrants in Toronto. The findings, based on data from active entrepreneurs, are relevant not only locally but also in other cities with a significant Hispanic presence, thus broadening their international applicability.
